My 5 year old (almost 6) is extremely thin, and has been that way since she started walking. She was only 3 lb 6 oz at birth (33 weeks). She eats all the time! She is always hungry! But doesnt gain weight! She is also extremely tall, over the 100% for her age. She is not picky, eats anything! She has a great, well rounded diet. She is not hyperactive. In 3 years, she has only gained about 2 lbs! Why could this be? Nothing listed above “matched” her..
I’m happy to hear that she is eating well despite her weight being low. I would just keep encouraging you to feed her a well-rounded diet of 2-3 fruits a day, 2-3 cups veggies a day, 1 cup full-fat dairy, 5-6 oz meat/beans, and 5 servings of grains (1 serving = 1 slice of bread or 1/2 c. cereal). If you are providing your daughter with the proper amount of food and she is not displaying any signs of malnutrition and her GP is not concerned – she may just have a smaller body frame than is expected, and sometimes this can correct it self once she hits puberty.
