I have two boys’ ages 9 and 6 both with a strong appetite. I mean they will eat you out of house and home. The only problem is they will not gain weight. Should I be concerned?
If their pediatrician tells you they are healthy and growing normally, no developmental or physical health problems, they are probably just fine! However, with growing boys, it can be difficult for them to get adequate calories each day for their overall needs, especially if they are active. So load them up with healthy snacks in-between meals and make sure they eat a decent before-bed snack/mini meal. Give them 2 sandwiches in their lunch instead of 1, and make sure they drink caloric beverages with all meals (milk, juice, smoothies, etc). Also be sure to include not just “healthy” foods, but also fun foods like pizza (doesn’t it always seem young boys can eat twice as much pizza as other dinner foods?) In fact, you can make pizza at home and make it healthier by topping it with extra veggies. Hope that gives you some new ideas!
